Complete re-haul of the design, and then realisation that it was in the wrong size all along. I went back to look at the initial design I had done regarding a cover page for the book and was horrified. I then printed one of the pages to check what it looked like in my hand. (It was here that realisation of the wrong size was a huge impact)
Which didn't even matter at the end as it has become a E-Book! So much time wasted there..
I didn't like the colour transition from page to page, even though some of the colours suited the designs. I had a look through the rest of the designs and decided that PlantBot was the best of them all. I chose to go with the orange as the main focal colour, but then the white of the background was too distracting. So managed to turn the focal colour into a border and then change the opacity on the background so it didn't stand out as much.
I was never the best with colour schemes, though improving constantly.. (even starting to wear other colours besides black)!
After settling on a colour scheme, the rest of the time was setting up the double and single pages, which I kept the initial boxes in the background as can be seen below. Then each page previously as well as newer ones required the update process also.
(Update: Never work with double pages in Photoshop ever again! The file size was huge, and when it came to putting them into an artboards to create the finalised PDF - it crashed, so many times, then failed to create the PDF after no disk space was left as it was all being used to run Photoshop)
I have chosen to write beginner and intermediate on the cover as not to put anyone off, also because it is initially a 'character drawing' book, anatomy has been briefly covered and not gone into any great depth regarding the characters details. It begins 'easy' with a few circles to draw as not to terrify anyone and push them into tracing over it just to get the results, though hoping they wouldn't do that anyway with an e-book, or they may damage their screens.
I spent a good few days transferring images, text and as much as I could salvage, into the correct sized pages, then having to resize those accordingly. It's still frustrating thinking about it, as I had spent so much time initially researching the best size to proceed in also, I still can't think where I went wrong. Now it has ended up being maybe and inch and a half shorter than A4 portrait size.
I can't look upon this aspect as negative though, as without it, I definitely wouldn't be as happy now with the overall design of the e-book if it wasn't for this major mishap, and I may have just adjusted the previous one slightly but not to this effect.
Trying to stay positive right now as it threw me off getting this book printed!
